Frequently Asked Questions

I live in a rural area; do you have smaller tankers, as larger vehicles often struggle to make deliveries?

Yes, we have a fleet of four, six and eight wheeled tankers so, if there is restricted access to your property or it is on a narrow lane, we can deliver in smaller tanker. Just let us know placing your order.

My tank is a little way from the road. Can you still make the delivery?

Our tanker fleet includes tankers that have a 120ft hose, so we are able to make most deliveries.

What is the minimum amount of fuel I can have delivered?

The minimum delivery amount is 500 litres. At CPL Petroleum all our deliveries are recorded by ticketed meters which are calibrated to accurately record the amount of fuel pumped.

Smaller quantities may be available in barrels, so it's worth enquiring when you call to place your order.

Do I need to be at home when you deliver my oil?

No, as long as you allow us access to the tank then you don’t need to be at home when we deliver to you.

Can I receive my invoices electronically?

To switch to einvoicing, send an email with your name and account number to and we'll do the rest.

How often should I get my heating oil boiler serviced?

It is suggested by our boiler maintenance partner, Team Energy that you have your boiler serviced once a year to keep it running efficiently.

What is the difference between kerosene and gas oil?

Kerosene, which is also known as 28-second oil (or more commonly home heating oil), is used in most domestic heating systems. It provides a clean and efficient burn for heating your home.

Gas oil, also known as 35-second oil or red diesel, is more commonly used in business and agriculture, but some domestic tanks do use it. Gas oil is less combustible than kerosene.

Does Premium Kerosene improve the efficiency of my boiler?

Premium Kerosene works by stabilizing the fuel which keeps it fresher for longer. It also reduces carbon and sludge build-up and in turn, will help to improve overall efficiency.

What should I do if I discover a leak in my tank?

In the event of a leak we recommend that you contact your tank manufacturer immediately.

In the meantime, there are some simple steps you can take to try and prevent any substantial damage.

  • Rub the crack with soap which can act as a temporary fix for smaller cracks.
  • Products such as a clay based leak sealing putty (available from selected retailers) can also temporarily seal the crack/leak. You should then look to organise a tank replacement.
  • Finally, you should contact the 24-hour Environment Agency's UK Pollution Incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.

How can I protect my oil from thieves?

At CPL Petroleum we have a selection of monitoring devices that will automatically monitor your oil levels. If your oil levels suddenly drop (indicating a theft or leak) the device set off an alarm.
